About the Event


On Wednesday, Feb. 24, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet will offer a public address at FAU Arena from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Information about the Dalai Lama, additional Expressions of Peace Week events, ticket availability, news releases and many other details are accessible through the links listed above and on the right.

Note: Classes at Florida Atlantic University will not be canceled for this event. Students who receive a ticket via the lottery or through purchasing one must make arrangements with faculty members to be excused from class.

Tree Planting Set for Today
At 2 p.m. outside the Social Sciences Building on the Boca Raton campus the Mission Green Student Association along with the Peace Studies Student Association will hold a tree planting ceremony in recognition of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet's visit to FAU.

Public Address Today
To attend today's event, you must have a ticket — some 2,000 students, faculty and staff received tickets through lottery drawings and contests. Tickets were also available for purchase by the general public. For those attending the event, security officers will be conducting physical searches of all guests entering the arena, so be sure to arrive early. In addition to the prohibited items listed with notification emails and ticket information, purses, backpacks and all bags are prohibited.

Simulcast Available to FAU Students Faculty and Staff
The public address will be simulcast from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the Carole and Barry Kaye Performing Arts Auditorium in the Student Union on the Boca Raton campus. The simulcast is open to FAU students, faculty and staff only. You must have a valid Owl Card to be allowed into the event. The doors to the auditorium will be open from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Seating will be general admission on first-come, first-served basis. No one will be admitted after 9:30 a.m. It is anticipated that the auditorium will fill quickly to capacity, so be sure to get there early. If the auditorium fills before 9:30 a.m., the doors will be closed and people will be turned away. As a reminder, no food or drink is allowed in the auditorium

Heavy Traffic Expected Today
Due to the Dalai Lama’s public address at the FAU Arena, traffic on the Boca Raton campus — and specifically on the west side of the campus — is expected to be heavy all day. Please plan ahead to avoid congestion and delays.

Student Essay Winners Announced
The FAU Peace Studies Program and the University Center for Excellence in Writing have announced the winners in the undergraduate and graduate student categories for the essay contest in honor of the historic visit of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet. Students selected receive a free ticket to the Dalai Lama’s public address and will read their essays during the Peaceway on the Breezeway event from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Boca Raton Campus Breezeway (the essays will be read between noon and 1 p.m. at Traditions Plaza). Second-Chance Lottery Winners Notified — Need to Pick Up Tickets by Friday
Some additional students, faulty and staff who entered the ticket lottery have been notified through email that they have received a ticket to the Dalai Lama's address. A number of ticket winners were not able to attend or did not pick up their tickets, so those tickets have been reallocated. The latest winners have until Friday at 5 p.m. to pick up tickets. Students, faulty and staff who received a ticket in the lottery — emails informing winners went out on Friday, Jan. 22 — can pick up tickets starting today. Pick-up dates are based on last names. Click here for details.

FAU graduate and undergraduate students are invited to enter an Essay Contest. Winners will receive a free ticket to the Dalai Lama’s public address, have their essays published on this website and read their essays during the Peaceway on the Breezeway event. Click here for details.
