Title ix
Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972 is a federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in education programs and activities operated by universities receiving federal financial assistance.
- Title IX states that no person in the United States on the basis of sex, be excluded from participating in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under an education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.
Prohibited conduct includes but is not limited to forms of gender-based discrimination, sex-based discrimination, or forms of sexual misconduct defined as sexual harassment, sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking. Title IX prohibitions apply to students, faculty, staff, and visitors at Florida Atlantic University.
Title IX Coordinator
Title IX of the Education Amendments Act requires all educational agencies to have a Title IX Coordinator. The Title IX Coordinator is designated with the primary responsibility for coordinating the university's compliance with Title IX. This includes providing leadership fro Title IX activities, providing consultation, education and training, and helping to ensure the university responds appropriately, effectively, and equitably to issues arising under Title IX.
In accordance with Title IX regulations, Florida Atlantic University has designated Bobby Brown as the University's Title IX Coordinator.
