Claudia Villasmil

Anthropology and Psychology

Claudia Villasmil transferred to the Harriet L Wilkes Honors College (WHC) after attending Broward Community College. She first heard about the WHC while at a college fair and knew right away that this college, with its small class sizes, would be the best educational environment for her. Since attending the WHC Claudia has built professional relationships with her professors and advisors. Claudia is double majoring in anthropology and psychology. She is currently serving as a student research assistant, working with anthropologist and Associate Professor Dr. Jaqueline Fewkes on a project documenting social change in contemporary American mosque communities. Claudia explains that being a part of a more intimate campus gave her the opportunity to immerse herself in many activities, where she might not have otherwise, if she had decided to attend a larger university. Claudia is interning at El Sol, a Jupiter neighborhood resource center dedicated to assist day laborers in the Jupiter area, providing workshops, skills classes, and helping workers connect with employers. Claudia serves as the co-founder and vice-president of the anthropology club on campus.
