Sleep…the Secret Sauce

College life provides students with a limitless opportunity to stay busy. From daily schoolwork to campus sporting events, late nights out with friends, to early morning class, there’s no shortage of activities to occupy a college student’s time. College is the time to explore and enjoy as much as possible and the key to doing it all and staying healthy is sleep!
The benefits of sleep are unmatched! Sleep works magic on your body to physically prepare you for the next day. During sleep, the body repairs its muscles, tissues, and organs, and boosts the immune system. This helps in recovery from daily wear and tear and prevents illness.
The benefits of sleep extend beyond the nightly recovery process. Adequate sleep enhances cognitive functions such as memory, concentration, and problem-solving skills. This can significantly improve study efficiency and academic performance.
Sleep not only benefits us in a healing and cognitive way, but also helps regulate stress levels and supports emotional resilience. This link to better mood regulation can help reduce the risk of anxiety and depression.
Vanessa Grimaldi, Physician Assistant at FAU Student Health Services, encourages students not to overlook the importance of sleep. “Maintaining a healthy sleep routine can help college students stay healthy and balance their academic, social, and personal lives more effectively.”
