The FAU Department of Emergency Management is monitoring Tropical Depression Eta. FAU’s Boca Raton and Broward campuses are currently in the five-day cone of uncertainty.

As of 9 a.m. Friday, the depression is moving toward the north-northeast near 7 mph. A turn toward the northeast and a faster forward speed are expected later today, with this motion continuing through early Sunday. On the forecast track, the center of Eta will move across the northwestern Caribbean Sea today, approach the Cayman Islands Saturday, and be near central or western Cuba Saturday night and Sunday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph with higher gusts. Eta is forecast to become a tropical storm again later today, with further strengthening likely through early Sunday.

FAU officials are in contact with the appropriate local and state agencies. Students, faculty and staff should monitor all communication channels, including the University status page (www.fau.edu/advisory), the FAU homepage (www.fau.edu), the FAU hotline 1-888-8FAUOWL (832-8695), email, text, phone and local media outlets.

Information on preparing for and responding to hurricanes, such as unit emergency planning, creating emergency kits, and FAU action guides on weather events, is available on the FAU Department of Emergency Management website.
