Congratulations, Class of 2023!

This week, more than 3,000 students became Florida Atlantic alumni during six commencement ceremonies on the Boca Raton campus. They join more than 196,000 Owls who have graduated from the university since 1965. The spring Class of 2023 ranged in age from 17 to 78, represented 72 countries, and included nearly 1,000 first-generation college graduates.

During the ceremonies, I had the distinct honor of awarding the President’s Distinguished Service Medallion to FAU alumnus Manuel Medina ’74, in recognition of his outstanding service to the University and community, including his charitable work through the Medina Family Foundation. I also had the great pleasure of conferring an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters on longtime University benefactor Barb Schmidt, for her unwavering support of Florida Atlantic in areas such as athletics, medicine, and the Peace, Justice and Human Rights Initiative. Additionally, several Distinguished Alumni offered congratulatory remarks, including Michael Reiter ’88, Capt. Noel Gonzalez ’94, Tevin Ali ’17, and Nicole Cummings ’03 — who was recently inducted into FAU’s Alumni Hall of Fame.

We are so incredibly proud of our spring graduates, and I am confident that they will continue to excel in all their future endeavors. No matter what their next chapter holds, the Florida Atlantic community will be rooting for their success.

Congratulations, Class of 2023!
