Prepare Now for Hurricane Season

Today marks the start of hurricane season, which runs from June 1 through November 30. Now is the ideal time to make sure you are ready for a possible tropical weather event, including creating an emergency kit. Some of the supplies and provisions you might need in an emergency are already scarce due to COVID-19 and may be even more difficult to obtain if a storm approaches. Additionally, please review the  National Hurricane Center’s website , which has helpful tips on preparing yourself, your family and your home for a storm.

I also encourage everyone to  download FAU’s Owl Ready safety app , which features emergency guides, turns your phone into a mobile blue light, provides emergency contact info and ways to report a safety/security concern directly to FAU, and a number of other tools. Additional information and resources are available on the  FAU Department of Emergency Management website .

If a tropical storm or hurricane approaches our service area, the University will provide updates through a variety of communication platforms, including email, telephone, text messaging, social media, the  University status page , the  FAU homepage , and the FAU hotline 1-888-8FAUOWL (832-8695). To ensure that you receive the latest information via phone or text message, please  verify that your emergency contact information is correct  by visiting Emergency Management’s  University Alerts page  and follow the directions under “How Do I Sign Up?”
