FAU Receives $6M to Expand Marcus Institute of Integrative Health
Wednesday, Dec 04, 2024Florida Atlantic has received a $6 million grant from the late Bernie Marcus, founder of The Home Depot, through his charitable organization, the Marcus Foundation. The grant will expand the scope and services of FAU Medicine’s Marcus Institute of Integrative Health. Although we are saddened by the recent loss of our friend Bernie, we are deeply grateful for his transformational contributions of more than $10 million to the University.
The Marcus Institute was established at Florida Atlantic in 2019 with a grant from the Marcus Foundation to provide high-quality patient care, world-class educational and community engagement programs, and advanced integrative medicine. Since then, it has grown to include integrative pain management and precision image-guided injection therapies for chronic pain, sports injuries and mental health. Additionally, it has developed a comprehensive telemedicine model that provides functional and integrative medicine treatments to patients across the country.
With this latest grant, the Marcus Institute will increase its services, enhance its educational programs and broaden its community wellness initiatives. It also will build on the Institute’s groundbreaking pilot program to treat veterans and non-veterans with PTSD using innovative methods. Ultimately, this grant advances the Institute’s aim to become a national model for care that emphasizes comprehensive integrative health as the optimal approach to well-being.
We are incredibly thankful for the unwavering support of Bernie and the Marcus Foundation, which has been instrumental in advancing our mission. This generous grant will have a tremendous impact on our local services while allowing us to elevate the field of integrative health on a national scale. We look forward to honoring Bernie’s legacy as the Marcus Institute works to reshape the landscape of health care, research and education in South Florida and beyond.
