Schmidt College of Medicine Celebrates Match Day
Friday, Mar 18, 2022Today, the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine Class of 2022 celebrated Match Day, a national happening in which soon-to-be doctors discover their residency match results in unison. At noon on the Boca Raton campus, 64 medical students, surrounded by family, friends and FAU supporters, tore open their sealed envelopes to reveal where they will complete their next phase of training.
In this cohort, 100 percent of students received residency matches! Approximately 30 percent of the Class of 2022 will conduct their residency in Florida, at institutions such as the Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education in Jacksonville and Memorial Healthcare System, Pembroke Pines. The class also placed in several top institutions nationally, including Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles.
Of the 64 members of the class, 20 will specialize in primary care, including family medicine, internal medicine and pediatrics. Additional matches were made in other highly specialized and competitive fields, including emergency medicine, internal medicine/pediatrics, dermatology, orthopedic surgery, obstetrics/gynecology, neurology, ophthalmology and neurosurgery.
I am incredibly proud of our outstanding students in the Schmidt College of Medicine. Their course of study has been unprecedently challenging, yet they persevered with Unbridled Ambition® and are now one step closer to becoming practicing physicians. Congratulations, Class of 2022 Med Owls!
