Friday, Jun 07, 2024

I am delighted to share that Florida Atlantic has opened a new FPL Center for Intelligent Energy Technologies (InETech) on the Boca Raton campus, which we celebrated with a ribbon cutting event this morning. The Center was established in collaboration with the Florida Power & Light Company and was supported by a $1 million gift through its charitable arm, the NextEra Energy Foundation. We are grateful for the generous commitment of FPL and NextEra Energy in helping us launch this important initiative.

Housed within the College of Engineering and Computer Science, the FPL Center for InETech will advance smart technology research, develop products and boost workforce development in the energy sector. An FPL InETech Center Scholarship also has been created to attract highly qualified undergraduate and graduate students who are pursuing studies in related fields. Additionally, the gift will support community outreach and K-12 activities that aim to spur interest and educate youth about the energy industry.

The FPL Center for InETech is an exciting addition to the University’s growing research enterprise that furthers our strategic goals. Over the years, Florida Atlantic and FPL have enjoyed several successful partnerships, including vital seagrass restoration efforts in the Indian River Lagoon. As our organizations join once again to pursue excellence and innovation in the energy sector, we look forward to producing meaningful solutions while creating impactful opportunities for our communities.
