July 1 marked the start of a new era as Florida Atlantic University officially joined the American Athletic Conference. Florida Atlantic is one of six new members to join the conference, bringing its membership to 15 institutions. For the 2023-24 academic year, The American is the only conference with both an NCAA Men’s Final Four participant (Florida Atlantic) and a New Year’s Six bowl winner (Tulane) in its ranks.

Florida Atlantic has been on an upward trajectory in recent years, gaining national recognition for both academic and athletic excellence. Membership in The American will provide many new benefits to the University, including more expansive media coverage, additional support for our student-athletes, and exciting new rivalries. We look forward to welcoming our new conference rivals and their fans to beautiful Boca Raton, which will contribute to South Florida’s already flourishing economy.

I want to thank FAU’s Board of Trustees for their support, and our vice president and director of athletics Brian White for his outstanding leadership of our athletics department. Brian recently spoke with WPBF News 25 about the move to The American. You can watch the interview here.

I am incredibly excited about Florida Atlantic’s future in the American Athletic Conference and look forward to a great season for all our athletic teams as we continue our tradition of Winning in Paradise.

As a reminder, the University will be closed tomorrow, July 4, in observance of Independence Day. Best wishes for a safe and pleasant holiday.

Go Owls!
