More than 3 million residents currently live in Broward, Palm Beach and Martin counties — collectively the largest metropolitan population in the state. As Florida’s population continues to grow daily, so do its anticipated doctor and nursing shortages. In an effort to meet our area’s growing healthcare needs, today we announced the FAU Health Network, a collaboration among the region’s public and private academic and medical leaders. Initial partners include FAU, Broward College, Palm Beach State College, Memorial Healthcare System, Health Care District of Palm Beach County and Broward Health.

The partners within the FAU Health Network will provide opportunities for educational experiences and connectivity to the local health care community, ensuring the recruitment and retention of skilled health care professionals. The goal is to graduate more than 300 nurses, 104 medical doctors, and 150 social workers a year. The network also will enhance and provide access to clinical trials for the local population, and provide localized solutions that will eliminate the need for residents to travel for services only available outside the region.

Human health is one of the pillars of our strategic plan, and the FAU Health Network will help the university better serve its community by improving access to innovative care and training future generations of health care professionals to meet South Florida’s diverse needs. More details will be provided as the partnership develops.
