Fall 2020 Return-to-Campus #7 - Academic Instruction

The Office of the Registrar has worked in conjunction with other units of FAU’s Academic Affairs division on a Fall 2020 Schedule of Courses. Much of the instruction will be fully remote, including any classes with more than 50 students and all graduate-level coursework, unless specifically approved for face-to-face instruction.

Remote learning will be quite enhanced from the required move to this environment back in March. FAU Provost Bret Danilowicz offers more details in a new video that provides a picture of the academic instruction model that students and faculty will experience starting Saturday, Aug. 22.
All students have the choice of a “remote participation option” in courses and laboratories scheduled for face-to-face instruction. To make this possible, classrooms and labs are equipped to stream or record content for students who cannot (or choose not to) attend class meetings in person. For all course or laboratory meetings that are scheduled, academic content will be available by the end of that day to any student who elects to participate remotely. No students are required to attend any lectures or labs in person, with the exception of degree programs with special accreditation requirements such as clinical experiences.
For on-campus courses, faculty members and students will follow strict physical distancing protocols in all classrooms and labs, with face coverings required. Classrooms will operate at no more than 25 percent capacity. In-person sign-up tools will be available through Canvas to ensure adherence to physical distancing requirements and the 25 percent room capacity limit. Before coming to campus, students should check with their instructor to see if the class has limited capacity and may require a reserved seat.
Faculty members are encouraged to continue to avail themselves of the resources on the Keep Teaching website, while students should visit the Keep Learning website to familiarize themselves with remote learning resources.
Remember to visit the dedicated COVID-19 website as it is the best source of FAU-specific information. The Guidance and Services page features an “A-Z” listing of items from around the university. New information is added to the pages as we confirm changes in our operations.
