Celebrating the 30-Year Legacy of Dorothy F. Schmidt
Thursday, Feb 22, 2024The Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters hosted its annual Culture, Arts and Society Today (CAST) Party this week, commemorating the 30th anniversary of its naming while supporting student scholarships. The “friend-, fan- and fundraiser” was an evening to remember as we honored the Schmidts and the Schmidt Family Foundation, Myrna Gordon Skurnick and BrandStar for their tremendous contributions to the college and the arts.
We were thrilled to welcome Florida Atlantic alumnus Marc Kudisch ’88, who performed live theater numbers as our headliner. Marc is a three-time Tony Award nominee and has appeared in many television shows and movies.
We also were grateful for the support of many event sponsors, including the Schmidt Family Foundation, Myrna Gordon Skurnick, Arthur Gutterman, the Barry and Silvana Halperin Foundation, Inc., the Mithun Family Foundation, Margie and Maurice D. Plough, Melanie Cabot, Beth K. Schwartz, Kaye Communications PR & Marketing, Howard and Judy Weiner, Alisa and Dr. Richard Cohen, Bonnie Halperin and family, Sally and Dick O’Loughlin, and The Boca Raton Observer.
In 1993, Charles E. Schmidt donated $10 million to name the College of Arts and Letters in honor of his late wife, Dorothy, a patron of the arts and supporter of the humanities at Florida Atlantic. It was a pleasure to celebrate her legacy, and the generosity of the Schmidt Family Foundation, at this year’s CAST Party. We look forward to the continued success of the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters, its students, and arts in the community.
