Proud to be a Carnegie “Opportunity University”
Friday, Apr 25, 2025
Florida Atlantic University has been designated as an “Opportunity College and University” by the Carnegie Foundation and the American Council on Education. The designation is part of the new Student Access and Earnings Classification.
The Student Access and Earnings Classification measures two metrics: the extent to which colleges and universities provide access, based on the percentage of students who receive Pell grants or who are from underrepresented racial/ethnic backgrounds; and the earnings of the institution’s undergraduate students eight years after entering the institution, compared to peers in their geographic area.
Opportunity Colleges and Universities such as Florida Atlantic provide higher access and higher earnings compared to their peer institutions. Only 479 (16%) of all higher education institutions in the U.S. were identified as Opportunity Colleges and Universities.
By providing affordable access to a world-class education that leads to high earnings after graduation, Florida Atlantic is transforming lives and creating generational change. Student success is a primary focus at Florida Atlantic, and we are proud to be recognized as an Opportunity University by the Carnegie Classifications.
