FAU to Move to American Athletic Conference in 2023

In October 2021, I shared the exciting news that Florida Atlantic University had entered into a membership agreement with the American Athletic Conference. Today, I am pleased to announce that Florida Atlantic will officially become a member of the conference in July 2023.

Moving to The American will give Florida Atlantic exposure on a national stage, in some of the top media markets in the country. The Owls will face four teams from Texas, two from North Carolina, and one each from Louisiana, Tennessee and Alabama. Additionally, for the first time, the Owls will face conference foes in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Oklahoma and Kansas, as well as in-state rival USF. We look forward to welcoming our new conference opponents and their fans to beautiful Boca Raton.

We also look forward to our final year in Conference USA, including our upcoming football season. We’re very proud of our accomplishments as members of Conference USA, including championships in multiple sports. I’d like to thank Former Commissioner Britton Banowsky and Commissioner Judy MacLeod once again for their leadership.

I am incredibly excited about our future in the American Athletic Conference. Florida Atlantic has gained national recognition for academic and athletic excellence, and membership in The American will help propel the university to the next level. Go Owls!
