FAU Accepts Invitation to The American Athletic Conference

Today is one of the great days in FAU history, as the university has entered into a membership agreement with the American Athletic Conference. In recent years, the university has been on an upward trajectory, building a national reputation for excellence, both in academics and athletics.

Membership in The American will provide a number of benefits to propel FAU to the next level, from more expansive media coverage to further opportunities for our student-athletes to shine as they compete in a Power 6 conference. FAU’s membership in The American also will give more fans around the country the opportunity to visit one of the most beautiful places in the world — South Florida — and will contribute to our area’s already bustling economy. We look forward to welcoming our new conference rivals and their fans to Boca Raton, as we continue our tradition of Winning in Paradise.

We’re very proud of our accomplishments as members of Conference USA — including championships in multiple sports — and we will continue to enjoy our time as members of the conference. I’d like to thank Former Commissioner Britton Banowsky and Commissioner Judy MacLeod for their leadership.

I also want to thank FAU’s vice president and director of athletics Brian White for his outstanding leadership of our athletics department, as well as our Board of Trustees for their support. This is a monumental day for FAU and we look forward to a bright future in the American Athletic Conference.
