alumni awards 2024

The FAU Alumni Association hosted its annual Hall of Fame and Distinguished Alumni awards ceremony last night, recognizing outstanding alumni for contributing exceptional service to their professions and community.

During the event, I was proud to honor two Hall of Fame inductees for their extraordinary achievements. Phillip Parker ’73, CAE (ret.), CCE, received a bachelor’s in political science from the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters. He served as the president and CEO of the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber's Educational Improvement Foundation for nearly 27 years. Angela S. Prestia, Ph.D. ’14 received her doctoral degree in nursing from the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing. In addition to serving as the chief nursing officer for Good Samaritan and Jupiter Medical Center, she is an author and adjunct professor at Florida Atlantic.

Distinguished Alumni from each college also were honored for their outstanding achievements. The 2024 award recipients included:

  • Daniel Chauss, Ph.D., ’12, ’16, Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine
  • Woody De Othello, B.F.A. ’13, Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters
  • Mihai Fonoage, Ph.D. ’10, College of Engineering and Computer Science
