I am pleased to share that Florida Atlantic’s College of Education has received a $1.5 million grant from the Florida Center for Students with Unique Abilities (FCSUA). The three-year award will benefit the FAU Academy for Community Inclusion, an approved Florida Postsecondary Comprehensive Transition Program (FPCTP) which focuses on providing employment and individual skill building opportunities to adults with intellectual disabilities. This award will play an important role in sustaining the academy, serving our communities and improving career outcomes for students.

As the only FPCTP option in Palm Beach County, the grant will support the coordination of full-time instructional staff between the University’s main campus in Boca Raton and the John D. MacArthur Campus in Jupiter. Additionally, the academy will serve up to 60 new students throughout the grant cycle, admitting up to 10 students per campus each fall. Throughout the program, participants will build soft skills, gain transferable employability skills and obtain competitive, integrated employment in their chosen fields prior to graduation.

We are incredibly thankful to the Florida Center for Students with Unique Abilities for supporting the FAU Academy for Community Inclusion with this significant grant. The Florida Atlantic community is proud to provide exceptional career and educational services to students with disabilities, as well as valuable opportunities to enhance their experience beyond the classroom. We look forward to expanding and enhancing our services even further with the resources made available by this award.
