Owls Win ESPN Events Invitational

Congratulations to the men’s basketball team on winning the 2023 ESPN Events Invitational! The tournament took place Thursday through Sunday at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World. The Owls defeated Virginia Tech by a score of 84-50 in the championship game on Sunday afternoon. I had a wonderful time cheering on the team with the many other FAU fans in attendance.

Six of the eight teams included in the ESPN Events Invitational played in the previous NCAA Tournament. Prior to facing Virginia Tech, the Owls defeated Butler by a score of 91-86 on Thanksgiving Day, and then took down No. 12 Texas A&M by a score of 96-89 on Friday to advance to the championship game.

Multiple players scored in the double figures each game, and several recorded career highs. Junior guard Alijah Martin was named the ESPN Events Invitational MVP. He averaged a team-high 18.3 points per game.

Florida Atlantic returns to Baldwin Arena this week to host the Field of 68 Classic. The Owls will take on Liberty on Thursday, Nov. 30 at 6 p.m. and Charleston on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 6 p.m.
