Baseball Season Begins

This Friday, Feb. 17, the Florida Atlantic baseball team will enter the 2023 season with a home game against Monmouth University. The game is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. and I will have the honor of throwing the ceremonial first pitch.

The baseball team has had a history of success under the leadership of Head Coach John McCormack. Last season, the Owls celebrated their 14^th consecutive season over .500; Gabriel Rincones Jr. became the first Owl in history to win C-USA Newcomer of the Year; and Hunter Cooley was named C-USA Scholar Athlete of the Year.

The Owls also received several preseason accolades. Nolan Schanuel and Dylan Goldstein were named to the Preseason All-Conference team, and Dylan Oborne was recognized as the Preseason Freshman of the Year. Conference USA named Schanuel and Hunter Cooley to its preseason all-conference team, further recognizing Schanuel as the Preseason Conference Player of the Year. Additionally, Schanuel was named as a Preseason All-American by five different major publications: Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, Baseball America (first team), Perfect Game USA (first team), and D1Baseball.com. Perfect Game selected Schanuel as Conference USA's top prospect for the 2023 MLB Draft.
