FAU to Host Social Justice Week 2019
Florida Atlantic University will commemorate the legacy and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by hosting Social Justice Week, beginning Monday, Jan. 21 through Saturday, Jan. 26 at its Boca Raton, Broward and Jupiter campuses. The events are free and open to the public.
The following events will take place at FAU’s Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road:
MLK Diversity Address and Day of Service: Keynote Speaker Corey D.B. Walker, Ph.D.
Monday, Jan. 21 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Doors open at 7:30 a.m.
Live Oak Pavilion, Student Union
The Center for IDEAs (Inclusion, Diversity Education, and Advocacy), the Office of Lead and Serve, Multicultural Programming Board, and Students Advocating Volunteer Involvement present the 2019 MLK Diversity Address and Day of Service. This year’s theme is “The Unity of Humanity,” which explores the domestic and global social, racial, and ethnic harmony. The keynote speaker, Corey D.B. Walker, Ph.D., is a scholar of African American social, political, and religious thought. The keynote address will be available at partner campuses via webcast, with breakfast and opportunities to participate in service at Boca, Davie, and Jupiter Campuses.

Tunnel Vision: A Social Justice Experience
Tuesday, Jan. 22 from 5 to 8 p.m.
Wednesday, Jan. 23 and Friday, Jan. 25 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Majestic Palm Room, Student Union
This experience explores the systems and forms of oppression that deal directly with domestic and global social justice issues. This year, the exhibit will be focusing on topics such as climate change, substance use/abuse, homelessness, human trafficking, voter suppression, and the school-to-prison pipeline.

Thursday, Jan. 24 from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Live Oak Pavilion, Student Union
The Florida Atlantic University Diversity Platform proudly presents this day-long interactive symposium that provides faculty and staff an opportunity for robust dialogue and intuitive reflection around current practices and topics focused on enhancing and sustaining a diverse and inclusive campus community.

The WeLead: Diversity Matters Student Leadership Symposium is a one-day experience that aims to broaden participants’ cultural fluency while also promoting informed and effective social justice advocacy. WeLead is open and free to all FAU students and includes keynote speakers, several break-out sessions and opportunities to interact with peers, faculty, and staff.
