Cane Institute SECME Team Takes Top Awards at Regionals
The Cane Institute for Advanced Technologies at A.D. Henderson University School (ADHUS) and FAU High School SECME teams recently took home top awards in the 2019 SECME Regional Competition in Lantana. The team earned the opportunity to compete in nationals for the third year in a row with first place finishes in the mousetrap and rocket competitions.
“Congratulations to The Cane Institute for Advanced Technologies teams that participated in this year’s regional SECME competition,” said Sherry Bees, principal/director of A.D. Henderson University School and FAU High School. “By developing award-winning projects and participating in numerous competitions, the TCI students have grown to be able to identify real-world issues and ultimately collaborate on how they can create solutions to address these problems.”
The ADHUS team placed first overall in the district; first place in the banner competition; first place in the bridge competition; first place in the generator competition; first place in the rocket competition; and first place in the mousetrap competition.
The middle school team consisted of Joshua Silversten, Brooke Hover, Patrick O’Leary, Crystal Diaz, Marcel Eugene, Marc Strelitz, Vinu Suthakaran, Nicholas Ostheimer, Sara Brady, Chase Delanoy, Braxton Wheelan, and Hudson Whitehurst.
The FAU High team placed second overall in the district; first place in the mousetrap competition; first place in the generator competition; and third place in the bridge competition.
The high school team consisted of McKhalia McKenzie, Tyler Brack, Sarah Habona, Xiyan Wu, Joah Levine, Chole Reeves, Cameron McMullen, Julia Smith and Shyan Braswell.
The Cane Institute for Advanced Technologies within A.D. Henderson and FAU High was established last year after a $1 million gift from Daniel and Debra Cane.
