Research Park at FAU Releases 2017 Report
The Research Park at Florida Atlantic University® today released its annual report to the community. The report highlights business contributions of Research Park companies within the community, as well scientific discoveries and collaborations.
The Research Park is the only state university-affiliated research park in South Florida and is home to 33 high-tech, high-wage companies that work with FAU’s faculty and students on industry-leading projects. It is also home to FAU Tech Runway, which serves as a hub to accelerate technology development and incubate startup companies.
The Research Park has an overall regional economic impact of $535.65 million; $387 million investment capital has been raised; 3,088 total jobs have been sustained; 192 FAU interns and graduates have been employed; 16 new U.S. patents have been awarded; and the average employee salary is $88,315. The Research Park continues to grow with 256 projected new hires in 2018.
“2017 was another strong year of contribution by the organizations that make up the Research Park at FAU,” said Andrew Duffell, president and chief executive officer of the Research Park at FAU. “An impact of more than half of a billion dollars is meaningful. The focus going forward is on deepening the intellectual contributions to the economy, and a big part of the Research Park at FAU’s mission is to support and promote R&D at FAU, so we’re increasingly seeking out opportunities for our private sector companies to collaborate with FAU’s researchers on areas of importance to our regional economy.”
