The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute atFlorida Atlantic University in Jupiter will present a lecture by author and founder of the Professional Golf Management program, Gary Wiren, on Monday, April 23 at noon in the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute complex at FAU’s John D. MacArthur Campus, 5353 Parkside Dr., in Jupiter.

Wiren’s lecture, “Golf: From the Roman Legions to Arnold’s Army,” examines the history of golf from the ancient Romans and Chinese who played  stick and ball games to the Royal Aberdeen Golf Club and Royal Calcutta. Examples and pictures of golf equipment will be demonstrated as well as the speculation as to how the game morphed into the target being a hole in the ground.

Wiren has taught golf in 32 countries including 17 years in Japan, written more than 200 published articles and 14 books, including the “PGA Teaching Manual.”  He served the PGA of America for more than 13 years and was the founder of the Professional Golf Management Program now used in 19 universities. Wiren has played and made the cut in the U.S. Senior Open Championship, was a collegiate conference golf champion, played professionally in Europe and Japan and won the South Florida Long Drive Championship.
