College of Nursing Receives $350,000 from Christine E. Lynn
FAU’s Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing has received two gifts totaling $350,000 from local philanthropist, business owner and nurse Christine E. Lynn for faculty talent retention and student scholarships.
Florida Atlantic University’s Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing recently received two gifts totaling $350,000 from local philanthropist, business owner and nurse Christine E. Lynn. A $300,000 gift will support the College’s faculty talent retention fund, which assists in retaining the best and brightest faculty, while a $50,000 gift will fund student scholarships.
“We are extremely grateful for Mrs. Lynn’s generous support. These gifts demonstrate the love she has for this community and the commitment she has to improving health care,” said Marlaine Smith, Ph.D., dean of the College of Nursing. “The endowed scholarship fund provides support for our undergraduate students who are preparing for a nursing career.”
The College’s faculty talent retention fund addresses the need to reward and retain its most accomplished faculty members, who are heavily recruited by universities throughout the country due to a critical national nurse faculty shortage. The nursing assistance fund is intended to support students who plan to work in this area once they graduate.
“An investment in this nursing school is an investment in the health of the people in our community. As a nurse, I care about this,” said Lynn.
Over the past 30 years, Lynn has supported nursing, healthcare and education with unwavering dedication. She currently serves as former-chairman of the board of Lynn Insurance Group, and as chairman of the Boca Raton Regional Hospital Board of Trustees. She is a 2013 recipient of the prestigious Ellis Island Medal of Honor, given to a distinguished American citizen who exemplifies a life dedicated to community service and who makes a better world for all. Her philanthropic efforts have provided much to the College, including a generous $10 million gift to fund and name the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing building. More recently, FAU received a $5 million gift to name The Christine E. Lynn Sports Medicine Center at the Schmidt Family Complex for Academic and Athletic Excellence.
