Florida Atlantic University’s Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College awarded $15,000 in scholarships to 11 students in support of their summer research at FAU’s Jupiter Life Science Initiative (JLSI), Scripps Florida Research Institute and Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience (MPFI). The summer research scholarship program encourages students to take advantage of the opportunities afforded by the FAU-Scripps-Max Planck Florida life science hub located at FAU’s John D. MacArthur Campus in Jupiter.

Supporting students participating in research through on-campus internships with scientists at FAU’s JLSI and Brain Institute, as well as alongside scientists and nobel laureates at Scripps Florida and MPFI is part of the Wilkes Honors College’s mission.

“These scholarships will make it financially feasible for 11 of our stellar students to work alongside world-class scientists from FAU, Scripps and Max Plank, whose labs are located right here on our campus,” said Ellen Goldey, Ph.D., dean of the Wilkes Honors College. “Often, our students are inspired to continue working on these projects during the subsequent academic year and end up co-authoring research articles that appear in top-tier journals.  In other words, these scholarships provide transformative opportunities.”

The research summer scholarship recipients were Adya Ali (Scripps with Sathya Puthanveettil, Ph.D.); Namrata Gadela (Scripps with Paul Robbins, Ph.D.); Patrick Hannan (MPFI with Hyung-Bae Kwon, Ph.D.); Laura Kuperman (Scripps with William Ja, Ph.D.); Elizabeth Lanzon (Scripps with Seth Tomchik, Ph.D.); Regina Murphy (Scripps with Ron Davis, Ph.D.); Swathi Pisupati (Scripps with Courtney Miller, Ph.D., and Ashley Blouin, Ph.D.); Anna Riso (FAU with Tanja Godenschwege, Ph.D.); Kreesha Shah (FAU with Alex Keene, Ph.D.); Rubens Tavora (Scripps with Brock Grill, Ph.D.) and Darren Turner (Scripps with Donald Phinney, Ph.D.).
