'Cans for Cites' to Benefit FAU's Beyond Food Program
Florida Atlantic University faculty, staff and students who find a parking ticket on their windshield this week can hold on to their money.
Florida Atlantic University faculty, staff and students who find a parking ticket on their windshield this week can hold on to their money. Today through Friday, Aug. 26, the FAU community can pay their parking citation with a non-perishable food item.
The program, dubbed “Cans for Cites,” is sponsored by Student Government (SG), the Weppner Center for LEAD and Service-Learning, and Parking and Transportation Services. Each can of food collected will benefit FAU’s Beyond Food program and Boca Helping Hands.
“This program is extraordinary because it not only benefits staff and students that receive parking tickets, but more importantly, it benefits our students in need,” said Michael Cairo, president of SG.
Citations of $25 or less are eligible to be waived as part of the program. Exclusions include citations for parking on the grass, sidewalks, crosswalks or a late citation past the 14-day period. Any citation meeting the criteria and issued during the program dates must be paid for with the non-perishable canned good by Friday, Aug. 26 at 5 p.m.
Cans should be brought to FAU’s Parking and Transportation, located in the Student Support Services building (SU-80), Boca Raton campus. The program will only take place at the Boca campus.
