Financial Aid during the SUMMER Terms
Registrations exceeding 15 credits in any semester must be approved in advance by the Graduate College. This procedure is accomplished by completing a Graduate Request to Waive a University Regulation form, available in any College Dean’s office. Students who drop courses during the FALL or SPRING terms, reducing their registration below 9 credits, will be regarded as part-time students. GRE Fee Reduction Guidelines
To be eligible for a Free Reduction Certifcate, an applicant must be:
- U.S. citizen or resident alien, and
- a college senior receiving financial aid througn an undergraduate college in the U.S., a U.S. Territory, or Puerto Rico, or a returning unenrolled college graduate who has applied for financial aid; and either
- a dependent college senior whose Institutional Student Information Report (ISIR) shows a parental contribution of not more than $1400 for the senior year, or a self-supporting college senior whose ISIR shows a contribution of not more than $1800 for the senior year, or an unenrolled college graduate whose ISIR or Student Aid Report (SAR) indicates self-supporting status and a contribution of not more than $1800.
The Coordinator must complete and sign the certificate and note in the applicant's file that a Fee Reduction Certificate has been issued. By signing the certificate and affixing the seal or stamp, the Coordinator attests to the applicant's eligibility in accordance with the GRE Board requirements indicated above.
The applicant must mail in the original Fee Reduction Certificate, payment equivalent to 50 percent of the full test fee, and page one of the ISIR or SAR showing the applicant's estimated family contribution with the appropriate registration materials. Any applicant who is planning to register for a General Test and a Subject Test should mail all registration materials together in one envelope.
Under no circumstances should an applicant be issued multiple Fee Reduction Certificates. Applicants who register but fail to appear on the test, have lost or misplaced the certificate, or wish to repeat a test, should not be issued another Fee Reduction Certificate.
The GRE Fee Reduction Program is funded by income from GRE test fees. The GRE Program incurs a cost for every test appointment scheduled or test registration received. Please inform students not to schedule a test appointment or register for a test unless they are certain they will be able to attend the test session.
