Christopher Strain, Ph.D., a professor of History & American Studies in FAU’s Wilkes Honors College has contributed a chapter to a new book on the civil rights movement. Understanding and Teaching the Civil Rights Movement (Madison: University of Wisconsin Press, 2019) brings together two dozen leading scholars of the civil rights movement whose research and teaching examine the broadly configured origins, evolution, and outcomes of the struggle for black equality. Contributors gathered in June 2018 at Ohio State University's Moritz College of Law for "'We Who Believe in Freedom': A Symposium on Teaching Civil Rights" to share their insights and expertise with one another and with the public in order to develop a framework for teaching civil rights history accurately and effectively at every educational level, from kindergarten to college. The book edited by Edited by Hasan Kwame Jeffries, Ph.D., Ohio State University, is part of the award-winning Harvey Goldberg Series for Understanding and Teaching History.
