UHP Peer Academic Coaching Overview
A University Honors Program (UHP) Peer Academic Coach plays a vital role in supporting first-year UHP students as they transition into their academic journey at Florida Atlantic University (FAU). Peer Academic Coaches (PACs) provide personalized and group academic coaching, help students navigate campus resources, and foster an environment conducive to academic and personal success.
- Commitment: 1 hour per week on Mondays from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm during the fall semester, plus three hours of training at the start of the term.
- Ideal for: Students looking to enhance their resumes for post-secondary program applications or fulfill the required volunteer hours for the UHP.
- Benefits: Volunteer hours are recorded and can be submitted to Noble Hour, appearing on your FAU transcript.
- Commitment: Up to 6 hours of work per week, including the Monday 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm requirement.
- Compensation: $15 per hour, paid bi-weekly.
- Ideal for: Students seeking flexible, manageable part-time hours with the convenience of an on-campus job.
- Benefits: Includes paid training, leadership, and public speaking opportunities, priority advanced registration, and networking with FAU faculty and staff.
- Completion of at least 30 credits with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Enrollment as a degree-seeking student at FAU, with at least half-time registration during the employment period.
- Strong verbal communication, organizational, and time management skills.
- Passion for helping peers succeed and promoting academic excellence.
- Familiarity with FAU’s academic and co-curricular resources.
- Provide academic coaching to first-year UHP students, helping them develop study and time management skills.
- Facilitate or co-facilitate discussions and activities during the UHP SLS 1501 common hour on Mondays.
- Collaborate with UHP staff and instructors to plan and enhance the SLS 1501 course.
- Actively participate in the Peer Academic Coach Professional Development Series during common hours on non-coaching days.
- Assist with the logistics and planning of UHP events and common hour activities.
- Promote campus engagement by connecting students with campus resources.
- Maintain confidentiality and respect the privacy of student information.
