What is the University Honors Program (UHP) and who can join?
The UHP is a 2-year honors program for qualified incoming first-year students on the Boca Raton campus. It is open to students from all majors.
What are the requirements and benefits of joining the UHP?

- Complete 14 honors credits
- Complete 20 hours of community service
- Maintain a 3.0 GPA in honors courses.
- Achieve a 3.5 cumulative GPA

How do I apply to the UHP, and can I apply if I do not meet the minimum requirements?
Applications can be submitted through the FAU admissions portal, typically including a personal statement, academic transcripts, and standardized test scores. While the minimum requirements are a 25 ACT / 1200 SAT-R and a 4.0 (weighted) high school GPA with a strong academic curriculum, we use a holistic review process that considers special talents not always reflected in test scores or GPA.
Is the UHP available to transfer students and can I join after my first semester at FAU?
Yes, transfer students can apply, and students may also apply after their first semester at FAU. Your previous academic performance will be considered in the admission process.
What scholarships are available to UHP students?
Students who receive the Presidential or Spirit of FAU scholarship are automatically invited to join the UHP. Additionally, students not receiving these scholarships may be considered for the Elite Owl Scholarship, which is limited and awarded early in the admission cycle.

What is a Honors Compact and how does it work?
The Honors Compact allows students to earn honors credit in courses without designated honors sections by completing additional substantive work under the guidance of the instructor.
How does the UHP support my post-graduation plans and academic success?
The UHP provides tailored advising, research opportunities, leadership development, and faculty mentorship to strengthen applications to graduate, medical, or law schools, and professional careers. Students also have access to peer academic coaching, tutoring, career counseling, and workshops focused on success.
Can UHP students participate in other honors programs, study abroad, or take on leadership roles?
Yes, UHP students may participate in other honors programs at FAU, study abroad with honors credits, and take on leadership roles such as Peer Academic Coach or UHP event leader.
How does the UHP integrate with FAU’s larger academic community?
The UHP collaborates with various FAU departments and colleges, allowing students to benefit from interdisciplinary courses, collaborative projects, and university-wide resources.
