Exploring Florida Aquaculture Public Workshops

Second Saturday of each month from
February-May 2024, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

Are you interested in learning where your seafood comes from? Do you know how to choose healthy and sustainable options? Find out by joining FAU Harbor Branch researchers and industry partners as they share their expertise! From your favorite seafood dishes, to restoring coastal ecosystems, you’ll learn how Florida aquaculture plays a key role in a sustainable future.

Workshops are geared toward public audiences- we welcome seafood lovers, educators, students, and all interested community members, as well as culinary, agriculture and business professionals. Sessions are free and open to the public; advanced registration is required to attend. This one-time registration will provide you with a pass for the entire series. Workshops will be hosted at FAU Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute (5600 US 1 North, Fort Pierce, FL 34946) and recordings of the sessions will be posted on this page. Participants are encouraged, but not required, to attend the whole series.

February 10th: Introduction to Florida Seafood and Aquaculture

    Did you know that Florida scientists and farmers are using innovative practices to produce clean and sustainable seafood? During this first session, learn about the status of Florida’s popular fished and farmed species, how to select seafood in stores and restaurants, health benefits from incorporating these proteins into your diet, and more.

    During this session, we will dive into the world of Florida finfish aquaculture. Experts from around the state will share about the species they farm, the methods they use, and where to find their products in stores. Researchers from FAU Harbor Branch will share how they have used research to discover cleaner and safer ways to raise fish.

    Aquaculture can be used for more than food culture. Learn about how FAU Harbor Branch and other organizations around the state are using aquaculture in innovative ways to save species and even provide stock for aquariums.
