by FAU CARD | Monday, Jun 24, 2024
Now that it’s Summertime in Florida, it is especially important to make sure your child has these pre-requisite water safety skills:
Around any body of water, It is critical that your child will reliably:
- Hold your hand when directed,
- Respond to their name when called, and
- Follow directions like "stop" and "wait".
FIRST start by practicing these skills regularly inside your house, then expand to outside your house in an enclosed space such as a fenced in yard, and then to the grocery store and/or playground BEFORE allowing your child access to areas where they would encounter water or participate in swim-related activities.
