Neile, Caren
Caren Schnur Neile, MFA, Ph. D., directs the South Florida Storytelling Project
at Florida Atlantic University, where she teaches storytelling. Dr. Neile serves
on the national board of the Healing Story Alliance, is a consultant to the International
Storytelling Center on storytelling for peace, and founded the Palm Beach County
Storytelling Guild. She is also co-founder and managing editor of Storytelling,
Self, Society: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Storytelling Studies. Her
publications include Hidden: A Sister and Brother in Nazi Poland (co-author,
University of Wisconsin Press, 2002), and “Developing the Story,” a
chapter in A Beginner’s Guide to Storytelling (National Storytelling
Press, 2003). In addition, she is a member of Burt Reynolds’ theater company
in Jupiter, Florida.
Dr. Neile presents keynote addresses, speeches, workshops and
classes for all ages around the area and across the country. A
former TV news writer, print journalist, writing and public speaking
instructor and Peace Corps volunteer, Caren presents programs on
a wide variety of topics, including: Talking Books: A Celebration
of Reading, Writing and Storytelling; Storytelling for Peace; Elder
Tales: Storytelling with Senior Citizens; A Story for Every Occasion;
Overcoming Speaking Anxiety; The No-crash Course to Public Speaking;
Speaking Our Peace: Speeches for Social Action; Telling the Holocaust;
and Generations: Family Storytelling for All Ages. She also develops
programs to suit particular audiences.
Caren is a lively performer of personal stories and folktales,
particularly for audiences age 10 to adult. Her performances and
presentations frequently include “storyweaving,” a
unique process to help audience members tell their own stories.
