Dramaturgy Note

To those of you familiar with the original Xanadu film, you are in for a treat- and a surprise.

The colors, songs, and roller skates you are looking forward to are all here. What you will be brought as an expansion and enrichment to the tale you know and love is more detail in terms of the traditional role of the Muse.

In Greek mythology, the Muses are 9 sisters that are known to be the goddesses of literary, scientific, artistic, and cultural inspiration. They are the source of knowledge passed down in poetry, songs, myths, and oral histories. Each Muse is known to inspire their own subsection of creation such as Comedy, Tragedy, Dance, Astronomy, and Song. Clio (or Kira, as you know her) is the Muse of History and the Leader of the Muses. Our Muses serve as a Greek chorus and play multiple roles to contextualize the story we will tell you of Kira and Sonny.

You can expect to see several Greek mythological references made in Xanadu, such as Greek Gods, Demi-Gods, and Monsters. All mythology referenced will be well explained and will co-exist with all of the 1980s era fun and leg warmers you can expect from the original film! We hope you enjoy.
