Visiting Instructor in Voice and Speech

The Department of Theatre Dance at Florida Atlantic University invites applications for a Visiting Instructor specializing in Voice. This is a full-time, nine-month position with a competitive salary and full benefits, beginning in Fall 2025. This position is not eligible for tenure.

The candidate will teach voice and speech classes at the BA, BFA, and MFA levels. A typical course load will be 4/4 with possible course reductions for research or creative activities within the discipline.

The successful candidate must hold an MFA in Theatre or have an MFA Degree conferred by August 15, 2025, and have teaching experience at the college/university level. Successful candidates should also have professional acting and/or directing experience commensurate with the position.

The ideal candidate will honor the value of and demonstrate the ability to work with a diverse range of students. Preference will be given to candidates certified in a recognized voice and speech pedagogy (Fitzmaurice, Linklater, Knight-Thompson, etc.) The department is especially interested in candidates invested in culturally relevant teaching who can teach broadly within their disciplines and are committed to teaching undergraduates in a professional and pre-professional training program.

The Department of Theatre and Dance is centrally located in the South Florida region in a vibrant and active theatre and film community. The department produces 6-8 shows per year in the academic unit and two shows through the Summer Repertory Theatre Program. It also offers substantial professional opportunities to faculty and students working closely with the resident professional theatre company partner on campus, Theater LAB. The department produces through our four theatre spaces on campus, including a newly renovated 500-seat proscenium theatre, our 150-seat black box theatre, and two smaller 80-seat black box theatres. Duties and Responsibilities:

This position will:
· Be responsible for a 4/4 teaching load.
· Fosters and creates educational opportunities where all student populations thrive.
· Advise approximately 30 Bachelor’s students in collaboration with college academic advisors.
· Assist in recruitment and retention duties (including auditions and some travel)
· Demonstrate skill in an understanding of cultural differences.
· Participate in department, college, university committees, and service.
· Maintain at least five office hours per week.

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

Required:
· M.F.A., Ed.M., Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Theatre. Requirements for graduation completed by August 2025
· Documented successful teaching experience in higher education.
· Experience working collaboratively with colleagues and communities.
· Commitment to experiential undergraduate learning.
