English Club Updates, Meeting Wednesday 2/16 @ 11am
A Message from Dr. Balkan:
The FAU Undergraduate English Club will meet on Wednesday 2/16 at 11am on Zoom. Contact me for the Zoom URL.
At the meeting, we will discuss several events—listed below; and if students want to meet at other times/more frequently I am happy to help reserve a room.
- Breezeway Dialogue: We are conducting a Breezeway Dialogue on Wednesday February 23rd @ noon. Dr. Colin Polsky and I will be discussing the relationship between capitalism and climate change; and the event is being moderated by one of our star English majors, Autumn Bryan (please see the flyer).
- Prof. Bucak Reading: We will attend the following talk as a group—please register!! Wednesday March 2nd @6pm, Professor Ayse Papatya Bucak will read from her debut short story collection The Trojan War Museum.
- Don't Look Up Screening & Discussion: We will hold a screening and discussion of the film Don't Look Up in late March. This is a significant opportunity to participate in a dialogue with science fiction faculty (including Drs. Tim Miller and Ian McDonald) and fellow sci-fi students and enthusiasts. Rod inquired about format: we have done this every term as a formal panel discussion with students and English faculty. I'll ask Drs. Miller and McDonald about their availability, and we can figure out dates.
- Beach Clean Up / Poetry Reading: Beach clean-up/outdoor poetry reading—to be discussed at next meeting!
Send any questions/thoughts and see you all soon!!
Best,
Dr. B
