Pre-Health Academic Pathways

FAU has multiple pathways available for students on the pre-health track to successfully achieve admission to Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) and Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) and other health professions graduate programs, such as Physicians Assistant (P.A.), Dental, Veterinarian, and more.

Advising and Guidance

Students on the pre-health track will work one-on-one with a member of our experienced Pre-Health Office advising team to ensure they complete all health professions graduate program requirements in a timely manner. Learn more.

Popular Bachelor’s Programs

FAU’s most popular pre-health pathways include the following baccalaureate programs within which students can complete health professions course prerequisites, listed below. If you already earned your undergraduate degree, click here to view your baccalaureate options.

Pre-Health Professions Courses

  • Current Issues in Biomedicine (ISC 1430) 1 credit
  • Medical Shadowing Internship (IDS 4934) 1-3 credits

B.S./M.D. Dual Degree Program

The Schmidt College of Medicine offers programs which allow outstanding students the opportunity to achieve their B.S. and M.D. degrees in 7-8 years. Students admitted into these highly selective programs will be offered conditional admission to the Schmidt College of Medicine provided they maintain the required program standards. Each student will work closely with the programs’ faculty and staff to develop an individual education plan and to ensure a smooth transition if accepted into the Schmidt College of Medicine.

Soar in 4 Medical Pathways Program

The Schmidt College of Science and Schmidt College of Medicine collaboratively offer a pathway program for outstanding Schmidt College of Science Soar-in-4 Scholars. Students admitted into this highly selective program are offered conditional admission* to the Schmidt College of Medicine provided they maintain the required program standards. Each student will work closely with the programs’ faculty and staff to develop an individual education plan and to ensure a smooth transition if accepted into the Schmidt College of Medicine.
