Congratulations to FAU’s Leon Charney Diplomacy Program on their first ever national title! The team recently finished first overall at the National Model United Nations competition in Washington, D.C., which included 60 competing universities. In the 22 years since it was established, the Leon Charney Diplomacy Program has won 32 national and international awards.
Peace, Justice and Human Rights is a platform of FAU’s strategic plan, and by giving students the opportunity to enhance their diplomatic skills, the Leon Charney Diplomacy Program is helping the university make great strides in our Race to Excellence. The program’s namesake, the late Leon Charney, played a pivotal role in achieving the historic 1978 peace accords between Israel and Egypt, and received an honorary doctorate from FAU in 2015. I am very proud of Dr. Jeffrey Morton and his student diplomats for their contributions to the program’s legacy of excellence, and I know Leon would be too.
