Welcome to Florida Atlantic University! Whether you are a student of any age who is seeking educational opportunity, the parent of a high school senior who is looking for a university that offers first-time-in-college freshmen a wide array of advantages or someone who would simply like to become acquainted with the world of FAU, you have come to the right place!
For a half-century, FAU has been dedicated to the multifaceted mission of delivering the best in higher education, research, creative activities and community service. A large, comprehensive institution, FAU is currently serving more than 30,000 undergraduate and graduate students on campuses strategically situated along more than 100 miles of Florida’s beautiful southeastern coastline in Broward, Palm Beach and St. Lucie counties. Established in 1961 as a member of Florida’s State University System, FAU offers more than 180 degree programs through the following 10 colleges:
FAU is the home of one of the world's preeminent marine science education and research centers, the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute in Fort Pierce. Students who are interested in ocean technology, aquaculture, ocean exploration and the health of our oceans will find a wealth of resources at Harbor Branch.
We are very proud to have the most racially, ethnically and culturally diverse student body in Florida's State University System; 49 percent of our students are members of minority groups or have come to us from abroad, creating a richly varied college community that offers great benefits to everyone. U.S. News & World Report has ranked FAU 27th among all American universities for campus diversity.
A world of opportunity awaits FAU students, whatever their interests might be. Students in all majors are encouraged to carry out original research, with faculty guidance. The FAU Undergraduate Research Journal is making its debut this year, showcasing the work of students throughout the University. Our undergraduate researchers are following in the footsteps of our skilled and experienced faculty researchers, who are currently carrying out projects funded by more than $48 million in outside grants. FAU is classified as "High Research Activity University" by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
Campus life at FAU is enriched by more than 300 student organizations, including fraternities, sororities and preprofessional societies, state-of-the-art residence halls, modern dining and recreation facilities, a year-round roster of social, cultural and entertainment events, and 19 NCAA Division I teams. FAU's two-time bowl-winning football team hosts home games in the University's 30,000-seat stadium on the Boca Raton campus. All FAU teams will begin competing in Conference USA in the fall of 2013.
Success stories abound among FAU's 130,000 alumni. Graduates include leaders of business, industry, government, education and the arts, researchers who have achieved major advances in biotechnology and engineering, two Pulitzer Prize winners and a NASA astronaut. We take great pride in all of the men and women who have passed through the University's doors, and we will continue to hold those doors open to new generations of students.
Florida Atlantic University is here to serve you, and I hope you will take full advantage of all that this remarkable institution has to offer.
