Fortunately for Florida Atlantic University, Tropical Storm Erika dissipated over the weekend and ended up posing little or no threat to our region. We are all very grateful for that.
Nevertheless, many of us experienced inclement weather as a result of the storm, and I hope everyone was able to arrive at his or her respective campuses with nominal delay.
There will be other storms, and we may not be so lucky. The preparedness actions that were put in motion early last week when Erika’s forecast path had the storm headed directly for South Florida will serve us in good stead.
Many of our faculty and staff, and certainly our students (I hope!) have not experienced a major tropical weather system at FAU. This storm potential was an opportunity for a “live drill,” and everyone involved responded as I knew they would. The safety of students, faculty, staff and visitors at all our campuses is always our No. 1 priority.
The last remnants of the storm have drifted away, and our beautiful campuses remain in full swing. Enjoy your week, and stay safe.
Go Owls!
