I hope everyone had a wonderful summer and that you’re ready for another year of learning in paradise! This is an exciting time to be an Owl. In spring, FAU received $9.3 million in recurring funding from the state legislature, which will allow us to accelerate our improvement to join the list of U.S. News & World Report’s Top 100 Public Universities. With our bold vision and track record of relentless improvement, I am confident that FAU will quickly become Florida’s next nationally recognized higher education institution.
We’re always looking for opportunities to enhance the facilities, services, and amenities on our campuses. You may notice some construction taking place, and some temporary road closures, throughout the Boca Raton campus. Please pardon our dust, as we work on these additions:
On-Campus Housing
- A new residence hall will accommodate 600 more students
Food Service
- Pop-Up food truck next to the Breezeway Food Court
- New branded concepts: Pollo Tropical and Pizza Hut
- New, enlarged Starbucks
- Large market/convenience store on the Breezeway
Student Union – $25 million renovation and expansion
- Additional meeting spaces
- Banquet hall
- Outdoor plaza/gathering space
- Union Market convenience store
- Retail shops
- eSports Arena
Also new this fall is the “Owl Spirit Fridays” initiative. Every Friday – not just during football season – you’re encouraged to wear FAU red and blue, or FAU-branded attire. I hope to see everyone at FAU Stadium this fall, cheering the football team on to victory. The Owls, under Head Coach Lane Kiffin, will host the University of Central Florida for the home opener on Saturday, September 7. Game days are always filled with fun and tickets are free for students, so I hope we’ll have a full stadium as we face the nationally ranked Knights. Click here for the football schedule.
