FAU Lab Schools recently was named a “District of Distinction” by District Administration magazine for its “Focus on Engineering: Using Engineering as a Pathway to STEM” program. The program was designed to address low participation in STEM-related classes and activities.
As part of the program, educators in our Lab Schools worked to make sure all students were exposed to STEM-related activities early in their education, and provided frequent opportunities for additional engagement through hands-on research and discovery. The result is that now more than 60 percent of FAU Lab Schools’ high school students are enrolled in STEM-related courses. Many of these students are engaging in undergraduate research with FAU’s world-class faculty and gaining real-world knowledge that will benefit both them and our community when they enter the workforce.
FAU Lab Schools is one of only 34 school systems from 19 states that received the “District of Distinction” honor. I am very proud of the work taking place at the FAU Lab Schools District and delighted that it was recognized with this well-deserved award.
