Harbor Branch Kicks Off Summer Programs

This was an exciting week at FAU Harbor Branch, as two groups of students arrived for summer programs. Nineteen interns from 16 colleges and universities began their 10-week research program. Each intern will develop a project with one or more Harbor Branch scientists and engineers, and give an oral presentation on their project in early August. Support for this program was provided by the Link Foundation, the Gertrude E. Skelly Charitable Foundation, and the James Pomponi Memorial Internship.

Harbor Branch also welcomed four students for an intensive summer research program hosted by the Southeast National Marine Renewable Energy Center (SNMREC) at FAU. This 10-week “Research Experiences for Undergraduates” program focuses on training, mentoring and research, and will provide students with an exciting summer experience that will prepare them for graduate studies or careers in engineering and science. Research projects will focus on resources assessment, system design and reliability, and environmental interactions. This program was made possible by a grant from the National Science Foundation.

Best wishes to these researchers as they embark on the road to discovery. I look forward to hearing about their projects!
