The 2019 hurricane season begins on Saturday, June 1. Now is the time to prepare for a possible tropical weather event. The National Hurricane Center’s website has helpful for tips on preparing yourself, your family and your home for a storm.
FAU’s official preparedness and safety app, Owl Ready, features emergency guides, turns your phone into a mobile blue light, provides emergency contact info and multiple ways to report a safety/security concern directly to FAU, and many other tools. I recommend downloading the app, and visiting the FAU Department of Emergency Management website for additional information and resources.
If a tropical storm or hurricane approaches our service area, the University will provide updates through a variety of communication platforms, including email, telephone, text messaging, social media, the University status page (www.fau.edu/advisory), the FAU homepage (www.fau.edu), and the FAU hotline 1-888-8FAUOWL (832-8695). To ensure that you receive the latest information via phone or text message, please verify that your emergency contact information is correct by visiting Emergency Management’s University Alerts page and follow the directions under “How Do I Sign Up?”
Please contact Emergency Management at 561-297-4587 or em@fau.edu with any questions.
The safety of our students, faculty, and staff is our top priority. Be Prepared, Be Safe, Be Owl Ready!
