FAU’s initiative to make hands-on research opportunities available to undergraduates in all majors has been under way for just a few years, but it already is making a tremendous difference in the quality of the educational experience for our students. This week the Office of Undergraduate Research and Inquiry hosted the fifth annual Undergraduate Research Symposium – the largest such event to date, showcasing about 140 individual and group presentations. I was greatly impressed by the quality and variety of the projects and the enthusiasm of our student researchers. Students from all nine FAU colleges that serve undergraduates took part. Volume 4 of the FAU Undergraduate Research Journal was released during the symposium.
Recognition of the excellence of our program is already beginning to come our way. We were recently notified that FAU has been chosen to host the 2017 Florida Undergraduate Research Conference. This prestigious event will bring outstanding student researchers from around the state to the Boca campus to display their work and learn from one another. We’re proud that FAU is playing a leadership role in encouraging early involvement in research activities by Florida’s college and university students.
