Today, the Florida Board of Governors approved $78.5 million in construction projects for FAU, which will provide much-needed student housing on the Boca Raton and Jupiter campuses. Requests to live on campus exceeded capacity this year, as a growing number of students want to fully immerse themselves in campus life. We are happy that we will be able to grow our facilities and accommodate 781 more students within the next few years.

On the Boca Raton campus, the 94-bed Algonquin Hall, which opened in 1965, will be torn down this summer to make way for a $61.4 million, 616-bed residential facility offering the latest amenities. Construction will begin this fall, and will bring the total student bed count on the Boca Raton campus to 4,700 once finished.

Our Jupiter campus will get a $17.1 million, 165-bed residential hall that will provide an additional 435 beds. Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2020 with completion by summer 2021.

This is an exciting time of growth for FAU, as we already have several other construction projects underway, including a $25 million expansion and renovation of the Boca Raton Student Union and the new $72.5 million Schmidt Family Complex for Academic and Athletic Excellence, adjacent to FAU Stadium.
