Like me, you doubtlessly were deeply saddened to hear of the recent tragic losses of three people who, in one way or another, were close to Florida Atlantic University. Two were from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland. The third was Jeremy Richman, the father of Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victim Avielle Richman. Dr. Richman visited FAU just last week, where he spoke at the 2019 Violence Summit on our Boca Raton campus and at a Brainy Days event on our Jupiter campus. Our sympathies go out to the friends and families of these individuals, and everyone connected with these tragic events.
Each of these individuals were affected by gun violence, underscoring the importance of providing mental health services and awareness for survivors who may experience post-traumatic stress disorder, or other related conditions.
