Tonight, the FAU baseball team begins its defense of the Conference USA title with the 2017 season opener against Monmouth at home. Last year, the team made its 12th NCAA Regional appearance and was ranked as high as 12th nationally. FAU was one of only seven universities nationwide to have both baseball and softball teams end the season ranked in the Top 25.
Senior relief pitcher Cameron Ragsdale was named to the Preseason All-American Third Team by Collegiate Baseball and was named to the preseason watch list for Stopper of the Year by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. Last season, he led Conference USA and ranked fifth in the nation with 15 saves, the second highest recorded by an FAU reliever in a single year. Senior utility player Sean Labsan was named to the Preseason All-Conference team.
Conference USA is extremely competitive, with four teams receiving NCAA Tournament bids last year. The Owls were picked to finish second this year in the C-USA preseason coaches’ poll. I know that Coach McCormack and the team are ready to defend their 2016 title, and I look forward to another exciting season.
I hope to see you at FAU Baseball Stadium to cheer our Owls to victory! For tickets, call 1-866-FAU-OWLS or visit fausports.com. Go Owls!
